About BODEGA CULTURAL NYC
Heineken Beer Advertising Campaign

Around the globe, cities take pride in their shops and food markets as places where commerce and cultures collide. In fact, most cities have a ubiquitous type of market that serves as an important hub for the diverse communities within that city. In New York City these convenience stores are called Deli’s or Bodegas.

On March 2014 twenty NYC artists of diverse backgrounds named Bodega Cultural NYC partnered with Heineken for a unique advertising campaign that set out to infuse the Heineken trademark with 20 highly idiosyncratic visions. As a team, the artists mapped out diverse neighborhoods in all five boroughs of selected Bodegas and Deli’s in efforts to make their mark with unique designs.

Starting July 1st a contest ensued between the participants with the winner being flown to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Their progress was recorded on their website where followers were able to vote for their favorite artist/design. In turn and randomly, these followers had the opportunity to also win a trip to Amsterdam. On October 31st, the conclusion of the contest, Maria Dominguez became 1st place winner of the Bodega Cultural NYC contest.
